The Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), announced today the introduction of new safety courses to the centre’s popular Programs in Health, Safety & environment.

The new courses are accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the chartered body for health and safety professionals, with more than 37,000 members in 85 countries. It is the world’s largest professional health and safety organisation that supports, develops and connects its members with resources, guidance, events and training.

The recently rolled out courses will provide GCAS delegates and students with internationally certified programmes. This will enable them identify various health and safety hazards, whether in-door or outdoor, as well as providing efficient insight in risk management.

Commenting on the new introduction to GCAS, Dr. Othman Al Khouri, Vice President Human Resources & Administration at ADAC and General Manager of GCAS, said:

“GCAS is continuously striving to provide internationally recognised aviation training courses for all aviation professionals. The newly introduced courses offered by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health will help promote healthier and safer workplaces across airports in the region.”

“As GCAS continue to receive such high calibre accreditation, as in its most recent membership in the ICAO TRAINAIR Plus program, along with its dedicated team of highly-experienced specialists in the field of aviation training, it is definitely moving forward towards becoming the leading provider for aviation training in the Middle East.”

The first IOSH course to be introduced by GCAS within its series of Health, Safety and Environment programs is titled “Working Safely”. It is a one-day course targeting all levels within the industry to provide an introduction on the importance of health and safety in today’s working environment. This course will also show effectiveness of behavioural change within individuals in the communities in which they live in. The session will include introduction, defining hazard and risks, identifying common hazards, indicating methods to improve safety performance and to protect the environment.

The second IOSH course titled “Managing Safety” is a flexible course designed for managers and supervisors in any sector to get them up to speed on best practice response in handling health and safety issues within their teams. The course will be covering introduction to managing safety, assessing and controlling risks, understanding responsibilities, identifying hazards, investigating accidents and incidents, measuring performance and protecting the environment.

GCAS has been certified recently as the World’s first “TRAINAIR PLUS” training centre by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is the exclusive JAATO aviation training centre in the Middle East region. GCAS is also a major certified centre and training hub to deliver courses endorsed by Airport Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in the region.
